Embarking on our expedition to the enchanting city of Minot, the Roosevelt Park Zoo was a must-visit destination on our itinerary. After a lengthy drive, it served as the perfect spot for the kids to stretch their little legs while indulging in the excitement of encountering various wildlife 🚗😜.

Nestled conveniently along a main road and adjacent to a picturesque park, the zoo’s location was nothing short of ideal. As we approached, the vibrant hues of fall foliage added an extra layer of splendor to the already grand entrance. Picture this—a waterfall gracing one side and a water fountain on the other, creating a captivating prelude to our animal-filled adventure.

Our anticipation soared as we entered the zoo, eager to witness creatures not typically found in our local zoo. Forget the usual suspects; here, it was all about Dorothy lions, tigers, and bears—oh my! While tigers and bears may be part of our regular zoo experience, lions and their African counterparts were a delightful rarity. This zoo boasted the entire cast of the Lion King (well, almost), featuring mesmerizing giraffes, zebras, warthogs, and hornbills that left our kids in awe of the sheer variety.

Although we’ve explored larger zoos in the past, our middle son was a mere 5 weeks old during our last visit, rendering his memory a blank canvas for these captivating creatures. The excitement of seeing them anew through his innocent eyes added an extra layer of joy to our zoo escapade.

Aside from the impressive array of wildlife, the Roosevelt Park Zoo doubled as a haven for avid photographers. Our little ones, with their love for striking poses, reveled in the multitude of photo opportunities. An unexpected highlight of our visit involved a humorous encounter with a baby squirrel. This pint-sized adventurer decided to join our entourage, mimicking the hops of a bunny as it trailed us. Despite our attempts to keep the kids (and the adorable interloper) at bay, we eventually managed to bid farewell, hoping the tiny daredevil found its way back to its mama.

As if the captivating animal exhibits weren’t enough, a quirky surprise awaited us—an entire full-size train engine nestled within the zoo grounds. It proved to be a fascinating detour, capturing the imagination of both young and old alike.

In the grand scheme of our Minot adventure, the visit to Roosevelt Park Zoo was a resounding success. We departed with hearts full of memories and an eagerness to return for another chapter in our wild encounters. And here’s a fun tidbit: zoos in North Dakota, including this one, are open year-round, offering the allure of wildlife in every season. 🦓🐘🦒
