To celebrate my inaugural Mother’s Day, Aaron and I opted for an ancestry DNA kit. As a self-professed history enthusiast, uncovering my heritage thrilled me to the core, while Aaron happily joined in (thanks to the buy-two-for-one deal!).
Throughout my upbringing, I absorbed tales of my German roots. A tangible connection to my ancestry lies in the bilingual marriage license of my great-great-great-grandparents, crafted in both German and English—a gift as I share my birthday with their anniversary. Another intriguing tidbit passed down was the mention of an ancestral castle tucked away somewhere in the UK. Despite the stories, I hadn’t delved deep enough to confirm their authenticity.
To put it mildly, my results were nothing short of astonishing.!
- England & Northwestern Europe
- Germanic Europe
- Norway
- Sweden & Denmark
- Ireland
- Wales
- Scotland
- Cameroon, Congo, & Western Bantu people
- Indigenous Americas-Mexico
Imagine my thrill at discovering Scandinavian roots, given my deep appreciation for their culture. But the real jaw-dropper? The bottom-of-the-list results showcasing the diverse array of regions in my bloodline! Who would’ve guessed it was such a melting pot?
As anticipated, Aaron’s results were equally diverse, highlighting a strong connection to European descent.
- Eastern Europe & Russia
- Germanic Europe
- England and Northwestern Europe
- Scotland
- Sweden & Denmark
- Wales
- Baltics
- Norway
With just a bit of initial research, Aaron has unearthed a trove of fascinating tales from his family’s lineage. As time allows, we’ll gradually share some of these stories in upcoming posts. Now, I’m eager to delve deeper and explore where this wealth of information might lead me, uncovering hidden stories from my family’s past!
