My Finnish Journey

Before Aaron and I tied the knot, we each had our fair share of globetrotting escapades.

One of my last solo adventures took me to the enchanting city of Helsinki, Finland. Picture me, wandering through the cobblestone streets, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere from Market Square to the thrilling rides at Linnanmaki. Museums, churches, and stumbling upon a surprise music festival—I did it all!

The beauty of the country left me utterly captivated, and the kindness of the locals, upon discovering I hailed from the US, warmed my traveler’s heart. I found myself thriving in the embrace of nature, even amidst the urban hustle. Parks became my sanctuaries for reading and soaking in the breathtaking views.

Now, here’s a quirky twist in the tale: while exploring, I stumbled upon a peculiar car show, and lo and behold, one of the vintage cars proudly sported a license plate from none other than Auburn, Indiana. Imagine the cosmic coincidence—I grew up not too far from Auburn, so that was a delightful blast from the past.

Among my cherished memories, attending church at Temppeliaukion (the Church of the Rock) and exploring Suomenlinna top the list. My brief jaunt over to Stockholm was a cherry on top of this Nordic adventure. The culture felt like a snug fit for my personality, and the only regret? Not mastering more of the language before my visit.

Now, about solo international travel—have you ever embarked on such a daring escapade? If so, where did your solo wanderlust take you?
