Recently, a friend asked me to photograph their family. While I’m accustomed to capturing moments with my own family, this was my first venture into non-family photography. Eager to ensure a smooth session, I took my family on a reconnaissance mission around the local research center/park, testing poses and trudging through various spots before discovering the perfect location.
However, there was one unexpected factor I hadn’t considered in my preparations.
On the day of the photoshoot, a mix of nerves and excitement fueled me. Packed with my gear, a cozy fall/winter blanket, and possible props, I felt ready to give it my all.
My entire family joined in to show their support as we drove to the park. Walking to my chosen spot, I laid out the blanket, and just as everyone was getting ready, the kiddos spotted a cat! One cat turned into two, and before I knew it, my oldest children were barking like dogs and playing interference to prevent these curious kitties from photobombing—jumping on laps, climbing trees, and engaging in all the typical cat antics.
We managed to capture some adorable shots amidst the feline chaos and called it a day. As we packed up and returned to our cars, the two kitties tagged along. Aaron and I shared a laugh, joking that our friends might unwittingly be adopting a cat. Suddenly, a cat leaped into their car! Thankfully, they shooed it out, and no cats were harmed during this photoshoot. It was a wild experience—one for the books that I’ll surely never forget!
