Live-action movies are no strangers to our household, but the latest craze has been the Monster High 2 movie. I’ll admit, I’m not exactly thrilled about the tween movie scene typically found on cable channels. There’s something about the cheesy songs, cringe-worthy dialogue, and predictably formulaic storylines that make me feel like I’m watching a hallmark movie for kids. However, our daughter is head over heels for the catchy tunes and familiar characters, so we find ourselves immersed in these movies. Consequently, those tunes end up playing on a loop in our heads as we navigate daily life around the house.
The kids and I share a love for impromptu singing sessions throughout the day. Our home is often filled with the sound of little voices, belting out songs with occasional amusing lyrical interpretations. Now, cue the Monster High 2 movie. There’s a particular song our daughter has adopted as her anthem, and she insists on singing it repeatedly. One morning, as we drove to school, she requested her newfound favorite, and that’s when the trouble began—I couldn’t recall the song title. I knew the melody, had a snippet of the lyrics she sang incessantly, but it wasn’t enough to pinpoint the title. My attempt to search for the line “You should be afraid of Monster High” led me down a rabbit hole of Monster High songs with no clear winner. I shifted my strategy to the Monster High 2 soundtrack, but alas, no single song stood out.
Time was ticking away, and with no solution in sight, I decided to play the entire soundtrack in the car, hoping to stumble upon the familiar chant our daughter loved so much. Success! Or so I thought. It turned out her beloved chant was a creative rendition, and the actual lyrics were more along the lines of “You should be afraid, better run and hide.” An innocent mistake, but oh, how I wish I had known that sooner! Instead of a swift victory, I found myself serenaded by the Monster High cast for a solid hour. On the bright side, our daughter learned the correct lyrics, and it brought joy to the kiddos, so I suppose it wasn’t such a bad trade-off after all! 😜
