From Hearing to Listening

We’ve all been there—nodding along to words without really letting them sink in. There are times when I’m engrossed in a task, and though I register that someone’s speaking, the words barely make a dent in my focus.

That post-daze realization, especially when it’s Aaron or one of the kids trying to share something with me, hits hard. The last thing I want is for them to feel brushed aside, thinking their words don’t matter. Trust me, their thoughts are crucial to me, even if my momentary distraction suggests otherwise. So, as we gear up for the fresh start of a new year, I’m throwing down a personal challenge—become more present and actively listen to what’s being communicated.

No more unintentional trips to la la land when someone I care about is pouring their thoughts my way. I’ve experienced being on the flip side of this, and it’s not a pleasant feeling. The goal is to foster genuine connection by being fully present and attentive. Here’s to a year of truly hearing, listening, and being there for the ones who matter most in your life! 🌟
