Let’s Spread Kindness, Not Germs!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year where it seems there are a lot of social gatherings. Thanksgiving, Christmas, work parties, New Year’s parties. It seems like there is a get together every weekend, and as much as I enjoy getting out, I don’t enjoy the added germs that seem to stick to us afterwards. You know what I’m talking about…. Stomach bug, sinus gunk, strep throat are all common occurrences in our home during this time of the year. No matter how much we wash our hands, sanitize our phones, keep our personal space, some one almost always ends up being sick!

The most recent exposure wasn’t even at a party, but the library! Some little child came up to our oldest son and just started squishing his face and poking him. I had to step in and make it stop. Out of the 3 kiddos he is the most shy and reserved, so we used this as a teachable lesson to speak up for yourself , but still I’m baffled by the lack of teaching personal space to kids. Not everyone wants to have their faces poked and prodded!

While we’re far from being experts, here are a few friendly suggestions to help fend off those pesky bugs!

  1. Prioritize Self-Care: Stay Home When Unwell
    • It’s tough to miss out on the excitement, but consider the greater good—stay home if you’re not feeling your best. It’s not just about you; others are counting on a bug-free gathering experience.
  2. Resist the Temptation: Limit Kisses to Little Ones
    • As adorable as those tiny faces are, it’s crucial to resist the urge to smother them with kisses, especially with RSV on the prowl. The elderly and young children are particularly vulnerable, so let’s prioritize their health. Older kids and young adults have hardier immune systems to weather the storm.
  3. Suds Up: Master the Art of Handwashing
    • It may sound like a no-brainer, but mastering the art of proper handwashing is a game-changer. This simple act can significantly curb the spread of the seasonal bugs that love to make an appearance this time of year.

By combining common sense with these practical tips, you’ll be well on your way to ensuring your holidays are not just joyous but also remarkably healthy. Here’s to happy and bug-free festivities! 🌟
