Brace yourselves as we venture into the inauguration of the House’s extensive renovation journey! Over the past year, as we navigated the initial stages of revamping the upstairs, our focus gradually honed in, month by month, with the aim of rendering the living spaces habitable before we tackle the basement. Our maiden conquest? The Upstairs Bedroom, a space that commenced as modest and was squandering valuable real estate with its original layout. Our overarching goal throughout this renovation odyssey is not merely to contemporize and revitalize the domicile but also to optimize spatial efficiency by re-configuring layouts and maximizing utility.
Primarily, the initial layout linked the bedroom directly to the sole upstairs bathroom. Faced with the constraints of our budget, which precluded the addition of extra bathrooms, we resolved to sever this connection, thereby liberating precious wall and storage space within the bedroom area. Fortunately, this adjustment posed minimal challenges, given the bathroom’s pre-existing layout, which we earmarked for future enhancements.
Channeling the spirit of Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado,” we sealed off the doorway, embarking on a journey to patch up sundry wall imperfections before embarking on a transformative aesthetic overhaul. A fresh coat of paint breathed new life into the room, while an upgrade from peel-and-stick tile to contemporary wood plank Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) flooring injected a dash of modern elegance. The room culminated with the installation of pristine white baseboards and a solid wood door, lavishly stained in a deep, lustrous walnut hue and coated with multiple layers of premium polyurethane.
With the canvas thus prepared, we curated a selection of furnishings, adding curtains for a touch of privacy, and voila! The room now stands on the cusp of completion, a testament to the transformative power of meticulous planning and execution.
