Confusion Alert: Baby Ostrich

Oh to see the world through the eyes of a child! Their sweet innocence can be quite comical, especially when coming across something new! This is a tale of the imagination of a child naming something fairly common to something amazing 🙂

Our Family recently visited a zoo that has a fairly extensive African exhibit. The kiddos were super excited to see the different types of animals. Giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, lions; this zoo has almost everything including the exclusive Canadian goose.

Most of us have seen this creature and in open environments, they tend to just show up. The African Savannah exhibit was no exception to this rule. There along the plains, we saw zebras grazing next to the wildebeests. There were also some ostriches mixed in albeit in their own section of the grazing lands. Our daughter has seen geese before, but doesn’t remember seeing an ostrich. She was looking out when she excitedly yelled out to her brothers “Look! There’s an ostrich! Oh and they have baby ostriches too!” I mean I can kinda see it with both having long necks, but if an ostrich comes walking along the outside of my yard, I will be royally freaked out!

After breaking the news that those smaller feathered creatures were in fact the same feathered creatures we see at our house, our kiddos went back to joyously exploring the rest of the zoo while us adults laughed as we spotted the baby ostriches everywhere the rest of the day!
