Custom Backpacks for Back to School

Summer break is nearing its end at least for our kiddos and with two in school this year, we have been busy getting everything ready.

One big ticket item that everyone from preschool to college senior needs is a backpack! As a kid I would often pick out a new backpack every year due to them always breaking. Let’s face it the cute backpacks with the characters kids love aren’t made of the best materials and once winter hits and the kids are stuffing wet pants and snow boots plus lunch boxes, and other things, the backpack that was once fun looks more like a victim from a zombie attack!

Aaron and I have attempted to curve this trend by making custom backpacks for our kids. This my sound super difficult, but I promise it is really simple and just takes a bit of time!

First we start off by picking a backpack we know will last a while. We chose Dakine brand (I have had my backpack since high school and still use it regularly!) We ended up picking out a basic black and white floral backpack and an army green backpack.

Next we come up with a plan to flair it up! For the floral backpack, we bought a pack of fabric markers and colored in all the flowers and leaves to create a pop of color on the dark base. On the green backpack, we picked out a few patches in the Star Wars theme and sewn them on.

Now our kids have fun, custom backpacks that can live up to this school year as well as years to come!

What are some ways you like to add individuality to school supplies?
